Review
What a fantastic movie. When I first watched the trailer,I was awed by it. With Peter Jackson producing District 9, I couldn't wait for this movie to be out. As District 9 was only available in Cathay cinemas,I had to watch it on a weekday and left work early to catch it. I was not disappointed at the end of the movie. The emotional aspect of District 9 was just beautiful. At certain parts of D9,you will feel different emotions.D9 was filmed in Johannesburg,South Africa. This is Neil Blomkamp's first full length movie. He did a short film called "Alive in Joburg" which was what D9 was based on.Initially Peter Jackson and Neil Blomkamp were supposed to make Halo into a movie but that fell through. And when Peter Jackson watched "Alive in Joburg". He pumped in 30million for Blomkamp to make it into a full length movie. Now for a mere budget of 30million for a science fiction movie,D9 was done pretty well. The special effects and the make up was fantastic and of course done by WETA (LOTR).
I cant say much for the casting as everyone in this movie has never acted before even the protagonist.Wikus played by Sharlto Copley who was also in the short film as well.
Throughout the movie, you will feel different aspects of emotion through the protagonist,Wikus.D9 is also done in a mock documentary style which has a more realistic feel to it.The aliens are known as"prawns" and every alien portrayed in D9 is played by just one actor.Conversations between Wikus and the prawns were mostly improved.
At the end of the movie, I could only think of one line to sum up District 9 and that is "The evil that men do".

I would recommend everyone to watch this brilliantly done movie even on a weekend as well.Enjoy.
