Review
When I first watched the trailer, it didn't do much for me. I didn't like the make up and the colour tone. And Sean Penn's make up looked like some villain in a Dick Tracy movie.
But after watching Gangster Squad, I was pleasantly surprised. Turned out better than I expected and the trailer did not do the movie justice.
The casting for this movie is good. Sean Penn was an excellent choice for the bad guy role as Mickey Cohen. Despite the Dick Tracy-esque make up, his acting was great. For the good guys, you have a pretty good team of young actors in roles which are pretty much suited for them. You have Giovanni Ribisi as the Tech guy, he was decent. Ryan Gosling as the hero's number two guy.I liked the way he spoke. Josh Brolin as the hero was good as well. Josh Brolin and Nick Nolte really do look alike. They could do a father /son movie or something. There were other cool guys like T-1000 himself, Robert Patrick and Michael Pena as well.
I liked the plot alot. Its a traditional mobster story with a healthy dose of violence. The direction was nice. Some of the camera works were pretty impressive. And the script was fantastic. There are some pretty cool lines, Brolin's and Penn's characters spew out.

Definitely worth watching on a weekend, its an added bonus if you love mobster movies. Check it out.
