Good acting especially Lidya.

It was nice to see Ellen Burstyn back as Chris O' Neil. She has aged well but sadly it's an utterly useless role and from what I read, she only came back for the money cos they doubled her salary and she used her slary to fund scholarships for actors or some shit.

It was also nice to see Linda Blair back and there is a high chance she will have a bigger role for the sequel.

The plot twist at the end. Where the parents had to "choose". I thought that idea was pretty cool.

Subtle tribute lines from the Exorcist.

What I HATED about The Exorcist: Believer

The director. Horrible acting.

The whole going to church to ask for an exorcism scene is a waste of fucking time.

The idiot priest in the car who comes in later dramatically was just laughable.

The whole voodoo Jesus thing with the black lady priestess was utter rubbish and useless.

There is a high chance this is going to be a trilogy even if this movie bombs in the box office.

Chris O' Neil returning is completely useless.

The slow build up amounts to nothing and pretty much insults you as the audience towards the end.

The audio is really soft and you do need to have English subs.

This movie is now a direct sequel which erases Heretic and Exorcist 3. I still believe Exorcist 3 is really good and a proper sequel. Heretic, Believer and the prequels all can FOAD.

All in all The Exorcist: Believer is a pile of crap and a waste of time. If you really want to watch, watch it on a weekday, if not just wait for the stream. However, I highly suggest you to watch the original, The Exorcist again. Cos Crytsal Skull is still the worst Indiana Jones movie. I thought it sucked ass so bad, they will not do another again. As much as I love Indiana Jones, Dial of Destiny was not that great. It was very long and boring. And it is kinda sad to see Indiana Jones, an iconic movie character have such a lacklustre end.

At 2 hours and 34mins, this is the longest Indy film. I kinda enjoyed the start of the movie when they de aged Harrison Ford, he looked like the Indy I knew from Lost Ark. That was nice and then it went on for quite a bit. Phobe Waller Bridge aka Fleabag creator was alright. She wasn't as annoying as Shia Lebouf in the Crystal Skull. Quite a few cameos here and there. Nice to see Sallah(John Rhys Davies). I wished we could have gotten a Short Round appearance but sadly there wasn't.

Soundtrack was a little too repetitive. Like every moment there is the classic Indiana Jones music. It started to sound like a jingle. The script was terribly boring as well.

There were moments in the movie where it was so draggy, I was struggling to stay awake. Only 2 scenes in Dial of Destiny, that was good, emotional and nostalgic. The scene where Indy was asked what would he do if he could go back in time and the last scene with Marion which was a nice nod to the first film.

Like I mentioned earlier, I was quite sad to see Indiana Jones have such a lacklustre ending. Go out with a bang or ride into the sunset or something would have been great. I'm just glad that this is the last time Harrison Ford will take up the Indiana Jones role. He's already 81 years old. I really hope there isn;t anymore Indiana Jones movies as well cos without Ford, it will suck ass. I will always cherish the first 3 movies and consider the Indiana Jones franchise as a trilogy, solely because I dont consider the last 2 part of the franchise.

All in all, if you really wanna watch Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, watch it on a weekday or wait for it to be released through streaming sites. You are really not missing much.
Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-37909860205477076652023-06-14T19:44:00.002+08:002023-06-14T19:44:44.312+08:00Movie review of The Flash

The Flash - 7/10

Directed by Andy Muschietti
There have been mixed reviews for this movie. For me, I enjoyed The Flash. It was fun. It was nostalgic. And there were many easter eggs. One of my fav is the Raquel Welch poster which is a clear nod to one of my fav movies of all time, The Shawshank Redemption. The other easter eggs did make me smile as well.

How the multiverse was explained in the Flash was easier to understand than Dr Strange's multiverse. Over spaghetti and I pretty much got it. Storyline was not too complicated although there are some loopholes. The CGI is not great and some scenes, it was terrible. The outdated CGI reminded me of Beowulf. But despite the bad CGI, it's still watchable.

The casting for this has been controversial. Ezra Miller doing a Charles Manson-esque thing after filming of The Flash was wrapped. Despite the bad publicity, he's still a better Flash than the TV series one. Ezra's portrayal of Barry Allen and Flash was really good. Although, there might be a high chance they will replace Ezra Miller so who knows. Michael Keaton returns as Batman is definitely the highlight of this movie. Keaton will always be my fav Batman and it was really nice seeing him don the batsuit and yes my fav batmobile is also there! I do hope Ben Affleck has a stand alone Batman movie one day. This is his fourth appearance as Batman even though it was rather short. I've never been a fan of Supergirl but I have to say the casting of Sasha Calle as Supergirl is not bad. She is rather cute. It was very obvious Michael Shannon was bored cos his return as General Zod was probably because of a contract. Even in his interviews, he mentioned he didnt want to return. It was also nice to see one of the cast of Derry Girls but sadly she had very little screen time.

Towards the end of the movie, there will be quite a number of cameos which will hit the nostalgia factor. I'm not gonna reveal them but if you have been watching comic book movies all this while, you're gonna love it.

All in all, The Flash is a fun movie to watch. Worth watching it in the cinema especially if you love DC movies.

Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0Singapore1.352083 103.819836-26.958150836178845 68.663586 29.662316836178846 138.976086tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-17283746012035991172023-06-13T18:33:00.000+08:002023-06-13T18:33:14.466+08:00Movie review of Transformers: Rise of the Beast

Transformers: Rise of the Beast - 5/10.

Yet another Transformers movie to capture nostalgia. This time Michael Bay is not directing it, just producing it. The sheer mention of his name is enough to invoke nonsensical action regardless of how silly it can be. I really thought ROTB would be along with the worst Transformers movies like The Last Knight but surprisingly it didnt end up being rubbish.

If you enjoyed watching Bumblebee, then you will enjoy watching ROTB cos they are pretty similar to each other. The nostalgia is one and the other is it isnt directed by Michael Bay.

To be honest, I've never liked Prime. Even when I used to watch the cartoons in the 80s. I always felt he was quite useless and a really shit leader. And this trait is consistent from the cartoons to the movies. So in ROTB, he is still a fuckall leader that shouts most of the time. Optimus Primal of the maximals was definitely cooler than Prime. I used to watch Beast Wars as well. The Maximals protrayed here were decent. The VO cast is pretty amazing as well. Michelle Yeoh as Airazor was not too bad. Ron Perlman did a decent Primal as well. I totally enjoyed Peter Dinklage as Scourge and Pete Davidson as Mirage. These two pretty much stole the show.

Of course there were silly ridiculous scenes in ROTB but they were bearable and the 2 awesome scenes towards the end outdid the silly ones. That one cock scene really gave me the Megaman vibe. The song they chose for the bumblebee scene was perfect and it was so fun to watch. I have to say that scene alone is worth the ticket money. The other scene with the Autobots and Maximals was cool too.

All in all, Transformers: Rise of the Beast is fun to watch if you enjoyed the Bumblebee movie. If you didn't like that, then dont bother watching this in the cinemas.

There is a post credit scene so wait for it.
Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0Singapore1.352083 103.819836-26.958150836178845 68.663586 29.662316836178846 138.976086tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-38180865468851863272023-04-21T11:21:00.002+08:002023-04-21T11:21:27.999+08:00Movie review of Tetris

Tetris - 7/10

Directed by John S. Baird

Tetris has always been a fun game. It has been for quite some time now. I didn't really know the story behind it and this movie despite some exaggerated scenes was a big help to finding out the story of Tetris.

Taron Edgerton as Henk Rogers was a real good casting choice. As a matter of fact, the casting for Tetris is really good. The story pacing was good. I could have done without the car chase and all. It was pretty obvious that they had to make some scenes exaggerated.

My fav thing about Tetris was the animations and transitions. It really gave a nostalgic retro feel to the movie. Even the soundtrack reminded me of the classic game, with a modern twist of course.

The scene that got me all nostalgic about my childhood was the game boy scene. I was smiling throughout the whole scene.

All in all, Tetris is a good and heartwarming story and gives you an insight on how the game was created and got where it is now. Worth the watch.
Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-47178208423976066002023-04-20T11:01:00.000+08:002023-04-20T11:01:54.463+08:00Movie review of Evil Dead Rise

Evil Dead Rise - 7.5/10

Directed by Lee Cronin

I've always felt that the remake of Evil Dead in 2013 was a fantastic film. It was scary, gory and some really good shots in it. Fast forward to 2023, I was skeptical about Evil Dead Rise cos usually horror sequels sucks and worse, sequels of horror remakes will suck ass. After watching Evil Dead Rise premier last night. I was wrong. Dead fucking wrong. This is definitely one of the best horror gore movies for this year at least.

It has been a while since I saw a really good intro to a movie. EDR just starts from the get go. After a scene, when you see the title, you will know you are in for one helluva ride.

Modern horror movies are always over reliant on CGI to have that scare effect. You can tell EDR doesn't have that much CGI and they were banking on cool camera shots, the actors appearances, acting and a shit load of fake blood. 6500 liters to be exact was used. The gore scenes are top notch and will make you go queasy. There also some very creative kill scenes as well. If the penknife scene in Evil Dead was memorable, Evil Dead Rise has more memorable gruesome ones.

Alyssa Sutherland as Ellie the mother definitely stole the movie for me. She already looks scary at the start and gets scarier in every scene she is in. If you can remember, Alyssa was the queen and second wife of Ragnar, in the tv series, Vikings.

The rest of the cast are unknown to me and they were pretty decent. Their horrified looks were good enough and Nell Fisher as Kassie was cute. She has a pretty cool scene as well.

I loved the camera work for EDR. There were many easter eggs in tribute to some classic horror movies. There is a scene where the camera is shooting from below to show the actor holding the door, that was a brilliant tribute to The Shining. Subtle nods to John Carpenter's The Thing as well. And of course tribute to the original Evil Dead as well. Chainsaw, shotgun and some classic lines. The director, Lee Cronin, definitely has done his homework with producers Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell probably watching over.

My only gripe with this movie is there is no English subs. There are some scenes, I couldn't really hear what the dialogues were. I really hope cinemas would have English subs to movies instead of Chinese.

That being said, I will definitely watch this again with subs of course.

All in all, Evil Dead Rise is really good and if you are fan of the original or remake, you should definitely catch it even on a weekend!

DEAD BY DAWN!

Special thanks to Geek Culture and Warner Bros sg for the tickets!
Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-61438330455949921752022-12-24T17:37:00.000+08:002022-12-24T17:37:02.855+08:00Movie review of Avatar: The Way of Water.
Avatar: The Way of Water - 6/10

Directed by James Cameron

If you are going to watch Avatar: The Way of Water in the cinemas, make sure you pee at least twice before you go in and get snacks. I was watching the behind the scenes and I have to say, they really levelled up for this.

But besides that, frankly I wasn't really impressed with the acting nor the story. The casting wasn't all that great either. One of my gripes of Avatar 2 was this. Do I really need to see the same villain again? I mean Stephen Lang was awesome in the first movie. He died at the end. Do we really need to see him again in Avatar 2? For what? No other actors to be villain ah? Same goes to Sigourney Weaver. She was good in the first one. Why is she in this as a 14 year old kid? For what? It's not just weird for a grown ass woman to play a 14 year old kid, I didn't really get the reason why either. Some shit about memory storage which was quickly explained. Zoe Saldana half the fuck time she is growling like a cat or shouting incoherent shit. Sam Worthington narrating is about as exciting as watching grass grow.

There were some new actors joining in the cast as well. Kate Winslet is one of them. She didn't really have much scenes. I was hoping for her to go against Zoe Saldana's character but they only pretty much growled at each other for a bit. Eddie Falco would have been a good new villain for this but her scenes were limited as well. The kids in Avatar 2 are quite annoying. There's one fucker, the human kid. He goes around jumping like Mowgli from Jungle Book but with dreadlocks. I was hoping he would die. Fuck him.

The script is also pretty bad. Why are all the Navi kids talking like surfer dudes? bruh this bruh that. Just because they are sea people now ah? And why the Navi adults all talk like they are fengshui masters. It's damn annoying.

The story sadly is tame. There wasn't really a big climatic scene like the first Avatar. Somewhere around the 2 hour mark, it gets really boring and draggy. The whole teaching the Sully family to be sea people. If you need to pee, that's a good time to do so cos you are not missing much.

All in all, Avatar: The way of water is quite mediocre. If you really want to watch it in the cinema, watch it on a Monday, cos spending $16 bucks on this is not worth it. Just wait for the stream.

Luckily James Cameron filmed part 3 and 4 of Avatar concurrently so we probably will get to see them in the next few years. If the Avatar series doesn't do well, he might end it as a trilogy. He was also quoted saying How many people gives a shit about Avatar now?

I for one, do not but I will watch the 3rd fucking one or anything James Cameron comes out. Cos its James fucking Cameron.
Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-34787666923517112452022-10-01T21:29:00.002+08:002022-10-01T21:29:56.137+08:00Movie review of Blonde

Blonde - 2/10

Directed by Andrew Dominik.

What a terribly boring movie. Watching grass grow is far more exciting than watching this 3 hour crap. Watching Blonde is like watching a pirated version of a Terrence Malick movie and fuck Terrence Malick.

Why would you wanna make a movie of Marilyn Monroe but use a fictionalized book? The way the movie was made was terrible. Granted there are a few very nice shots. But its like for every 1 good shot, there will be 5 shit shots. Terrible close ups and some really shit transitions. And what's with the fucking colour? some scenes are colour and some are black and white. Why? If the whole movie is black and white, it would be good.
According to Andrew Dominik, the script contains little dialogue and he has described the film as being an "avalanche of images and events." It's not an avalanche of images and events, its more like a fucking video montage edited by kids. And yes, whatever little script there was, it was fucking terrible. So many cringe worthy lines. Knn, all her husbands, MM calls them, Daddy. It's like porn script lah.

Andrew Dominik had perhaps 2 good movies. Chopper and Killing them softly. This is definitely his worst. I don't think I'm going to follow any of his future movies.

The acting in Blonde is so inconsistent. There are some well known casts in this but all of them were hits and misses. Quite a number of reviews, says Ana De Armas was really good in this. Nope. She was shit as well. She tries very hard to get the Monroe accent but its inconsistent. Every now and then, you get the latino accent. Her make up was terrible as well.

Marilyn Monroe, no matter how troubled she was, she was a decent actress and was an icon. Blonde is just basically exploiting her one more time even though she is dead. I would love to watch a proper biography of her though.

All in all, even if you have 3 hours of your life to spare, don't bother watching Blonde. Watch grass grow instead.
Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-84492289583407342332022-08-09T21:45:00.002+08:002022-08-09T21:45:49.243+08:00Movie review of Prey

Prey - 8/10

Finally lah! A fucking Predator movie that did not suck ass. Prey is directed by Dan Trachtenberg and written by Patrick Aison. I thoroughly enjoyed and loved all the Predator 1 and 2 subtle references. Prey does have a few flaws but still it is really good and Predator fans will be happy, this didn't turn to shit.

When I first found out there will be another Predator movie coming out and it was titled Prey. I didn't give it much hope. Cos all the Predator movies after Predator 2 were terrible. Yes, there were really good designs of the Predators but still the stories were all shit. Especially the last one which was directed by Shane Black. That was absolutely the worst. Super Predator??? your mother cheebye lah, Shane. Fuck you. I had zero confidence before watching Prey even though there were early reviews saying it was good. I have to say after watching Prey, its definitely up there and I loved it alot. Definitely watching this a few times for sure.

Before I go on about Prey, here is what I didn't quite like about it. The language. The cast are from the Commanche Tribe, Native Indians. I wished the Indians spoke in their native tongue instead of English and have English subs instead, to make it more authentic. Like the Mel Gibson directed movie, Apocalypto. The filmakers wanted it that way but unfortunately the studios wanted it in English. I can't blame them, cos Americans are generally stupid and they can't read and watch so everything must be handed out to them on a fucking plate. There is a native tongue version but its dubbed so fuck that.

The other thing I didn't really like is the Predator's mask/helmet. Yes I understand, it's a different type of Predator, and it's called a Feral Predator and it is set 300 years ago so the Predators are not that advanced themselves. Maybe... if I watch a few times more, I will grow to like it. Also the Predator is a little bit skinny lah and the hair kenna rebonded that looks like a Malaysian Indian girl instead of the dreadlocks. Again, I will watch it a few times more, then I will grow to like it.

The new weapons are a bit of a hit and miss for me. I loved the spear/dual sword weapon. That was fucking cool. The grenade thing that launches 3 spinning things? Meh. The millipede curling knife thing was abit meh for me as well. Maybe I watch again and see how I feel about it lah.

I love the cast of Prey. Amber Midhunter as Naru and Dakota Beavers as Taabe were brilliant. Amber as the lead actress is just fantastic. I hope to see more of her and hopefully in a sequel. The cast were mostly Native Indians and none of them looked like beefcakes. Just ordinary looking Indians against the Feral Predator. The whole vibe of the movie reminded me of the First Predator movie and Apocalypto because of the chase between the hunter and hunted.

It took them about 4 years to get Prey written and done and it is worth the wait. Another good thing is that it is not PG13 shit so do expect some really awesome kill scenes.

I really enjoyed the pace of the movie. It starts a little slow with very lush and beautiful scenic shots but midway through the movie it gets intense and towards the end, it is really edge of your seat action. CGI was decent. The fight scenes are brilliantly choreographed and fucking epic. Especially the one between the siblings and the Predator and the final climatic fight scene between Naru and the feral Predator.

I also liked how the feral Predator starts his killings from small to big and he keeps going at it. The most stand out reference is of course the pistol which was from Predator 2. I was really happy about that cos finally there is a nod to Predator 2 which is often left out. The other references were of course about the original which everyone loves. Good thing there is no fucking choppa!

All in all, Prey is a fucking brilliant movie and all Predator fans should watch this at least twice. Do watch the animation credits till the end cos it does reveal something.

Prey is available on Hulu now. If it bleeds, we can kill it.
Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-498993137368023632022-05-31T10:26:00.003+08:002022-05-31T10:26:43.917+08:00Everything Everywhere All At Once

Everything Everywhere All At Once - 8/10

What an amazing movie. I was totally captivated from the story to the editing and cinematography. It's one of those movies where you chance upon it and it is a gem. I knew about this movie from a friend and he told me to check it out. It's a good thing I did.

Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert are the directors for Everything Everywhere All At Once and they written it as well. Another amazing fact about the movie is the entire effects were all done by just 9 people including the 2 directors. And they didn't go to a vfx school, they learned by themselves through tutorials they found free online! And once you watch the movie, you will be astounded by the effects. For me, I loved it!

I liked the cast for EEAAO. Michelle Yeoh is still a good actor and she looks great! Stephanie Hsu was good as well and I loved her numerous costume and make up. There is also a barely recognizable Jamie Lee Curtis and Lo Pan from Big Trouble in Little China, James Hong. For a guy that old, still acting is a feat itself. The one actor that took me awhile to remember was the actor whose character is Waymond Wang. Ke Huy Quan aka Short Round from Indiana Jones and Data from The Goonies. This guy hasn't done anything in 20 years! He has definitely aged well and I managed to recognize from his voice. It was so good to see him back on screen. Data was always one of my fav Goonies. Not just the acting is good, the script was good as well.

The biggest factor to watch Everything Everywhere all at once is without a doubt the VFX. It's damn good and quirky. Its hard to believe that this was all done by 9 people. The story is funny and quirky and has a good feel to it.

All in all, Everything Everywhere All at Once is a fantastic movie and everyone should watch it.
Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-6785976873800904372022-05-27T10:14:00.001+08:002022-05-27T10:14:44.663+08:00Movie review of Fantastic Beasts: The secrets of Dumbledore

Fantastic Beasts: The secrets of Dumbledore - 4.5/10

I'm a big fan of the Harry Potter series. Read all the books and watched all the movies. When the first Fantastic Beasts came out, I enjoyed it as well. The second one was a tad confusing cos of who's siding who and all. in anticipation of the third one, I rewatched the first two just to recap.

The secrets of Dumbledore is third movie out of a five part series of Fantastic Beasts. Sadly, we do not have Johnny Depp of Grindelwald cos of that fucking lying, violent, shitting bitch, Amber Turd. Depp got replaced by Mads Mikkelsen who is cool but not ice cool as the Deppster.

I loved the first Fantastic beasts. It was fun and I enjoyed it. To be honest, the second one was a bit of a drag and quite confusing. It was kind of stupid how some chose to side with Grindelwald like Queenie. What the fuck was that about?

Mads taking over as Grindelwald was a little bland. No doubt, Mads is a good actor but his stoic look just doesn't seem right for me. Depp was perfect and could have been a memorable villain as Fiennes as Voldemort. But alas, shit happened. Quite literally on Depp's bed.

Secrets of Dumbledore isn't as confusing as the second one but it is rather dull. Somehow it feels like the story is just dragging just to make it five movies so they can milk the audience. I always found Dan Fogler's character funny but this time round he wasn't as funny as before. I could barely recognize the cock who joined Grindelwald as well. Fucking Queenie Goldstein. Ezra Miller as Creedence has barely any scenes or lines and looks bored as fuck. Worst was Katherine Waterston as Tina. She was prominent in the first and only appears towards the end for the third movie.

All in all, I love the Harry Potter series but Fantastic Beasts not as much and I probably would wait to watch it on streaming platforms rather than watching it in the cinema cause it is really starting to bore me.

Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-27744768078953935552022-05-26T12:46:00.000+08:002022-05-26T12:46:06.368+08:00Movie review of Topgun: Maverick
Topgun: Maverick - 8.5/10

What a ride! By far the best movie I've watched this year. Topgun Maverick is definitely worth the wait! Everyone should watch this movie in Imax. It is that bloody good.

I was one of the lucy few that got to watch Topgun: Maverick on Top Gun day. We were invited to Lido Imax to watch the first movie. When everyone was seated and I was waiting for the show to begin. I was thinking to myself, this would be a good recap and in preparation for the sequel when it opens in 2 weeks time. The the MCs mentioned that there was a surprise in store for the fans who are watching today. Next thing I knew, Tom Cruise appeared on screen, thanking everyone for coming down to watch Top Gun on Top Gun day. The next thing he said caught everyone off guard. "We will not be watching Top Gun unfortunately but we will be the first to watch TOPGUN: MAVERICK!!!" Everyone went apeshit! I am so fucking glad that I did not skip this event.

Now the story you can pretty much tell from the trailer. Goose's son is in the picture and his call sign is Rooster. ok... Miles Teller as Rooster was good casting, perhaps without the moustache would be great but I guess he has to follow his dad. Jennifer Connelly is Maverick's love interest and I have to say Connelly looks great! One worth mention is of course none other than Iceman aka Val Kilmer. It is sad to see what he has going though in life with throat cancer and all. The scene with Iceman and Maverick is touching, sad and funny. Definitely one of my fav scenes from the movie. Tom Cruise returning as Maverick is just absolutely brilliant. It was one of his career defining roles and it was really nostalgic to watch him back as Maverick. Plus he is still bat shit crazy when it comes to stunts.

I have watched some of the behind the scene footage for TGM and its just amazing how this was filmed. The actors training for some scenes looks tough as well. I loved the cinematography and how it was edited. The dogfights are fucking insane and will keep you to the edge of your seat. There will be moments, you will feel like as though you are in the pilot's seat.

Storyline is pretty close to the first movie, the flight training sequences were great. Loved the scene where Maverick was schooling the young ones. The soundtrack has a mix of classic songs and the song written by Lady Gaga was nice too. It ain't no Berlin's take my breath away, but its alright.

All in all, I strongly recommend watching Top Gun: Maverick in Imax. You will not get the same feel watching at home which was a good move when Cruise decided not to release this on streaming platforms.

You will definitely walk out off the cinema with a huge grin in your face and bound to talk about the movie to your friends. I was blown away much like that rooftop.(Ed Harris scene)
Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-88217609189529675382022-05-05T12:37:00.003+08:002022-05-05T13:35:39.641+08:00Movie review of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness - 7.5/10

Benedict Cumberbatch is back as Doctor Strange and this sequel is directed by none other than the legendary Sam Raimi. In fact, he hasn't done anything in 9 years.

I have to say it's visually beautiful. There are tons of really beautiful shots which you can only appreciate if you watch it in a cinema. You won't have that effect if you watch it on a PC or laptop. That being said, the story and plot is not too bad and it gets a little draggy for a bit. You probably will start to understand better of the story during the halfway mark of the show. Casting is good. Benedict Cumberbatch was good but for me, it was Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda who takes the cake. When she goes apeshit, it is a treat to watch. The new girl, Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez(stupid name) was decent as well. And Wong is being Wong. hahaha.

There's going to be some pretty cool cameos and I don't want to reveal them as not to spoil the movie for you.

I really loved the cinematography and effects done for the movie. If you ever enjoyed watching any of Sam Raimi's early movies, you will definitely enjoy watching this even more cos it has all the little and classic elements of Sam Raimi. Just the movement of the camera and zoom ins are enough to make me smile with delight.

My only problem with the multiverse of madness was the length. Perhaps a little trimming down would have been good.

All in all, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a fun movie to watch and you have to watch it in the cinema for the full experience. There is a mid credit scene and quite possibly the funniest Marvel post credit scene to which everyone was laughing. Worth the wait....trust me.

Thanks to Geek Culture for the tickets.
Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0Singapore1.352083 103.819836-26.958150836178845 68.663586 29.662316836178846 138.976086tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-33283013152955346642022-04-25T11:41:00.003+08:002022-04-25T11:42:27.173+08:00Movie review of Uncharted
Uncharted - 5.5/10

From the
get go, Unchartered is a movie no one asked for. Perhaps when the games were
just out or when Nathan Fillon would have been cast as Nathan Drake. It’s a
rather forgettable movie which has Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. It’s not a
terrible movie neither was it great. I guess it was just too safe.

When the
casting was out for Unchartered, I’ve always felt Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg
were a terrible choice as Drake and Sully. Tom Holland basically rehashed
Spiderman into Nathan Drake. The script and the deliverance of it were nothing
like the video game Drake. Even the cameo of the actual VO for video game
Drake, was better than Tom Holland’s.

Mark
Wahlberg is not a good actor. He is hardworking. Yes. But he can’t act for
nuts. Wahlberg usually is good when he co-stars. He thrives off the other actor
and that’s what usually makes a good Mark Wahlberg movie. For example, movies
like The Other Guys, Ted and Daddy’s Home, there was chemistry between the
actors. In Unchartered, his acting was just plain lazy. His line deliverance
was boring and there wasn’t much chemistry between him and Holland.

The script is
very dull. There were only a few moments in the movie, which made me smile. The
action sequences were ok. I enjoyed the most was the fight choreography. That wasn’t
too bad. Somehow the whole movie seems manufactured. I don’t feel for any of the
characters even though I know them from the games. They were all rather forgettable.
There were quite a number of different directors and most of them left due to
creative differences. Maybe that was the case why the movie wasn’t that good.
In fact the short fan made movie with Nathan Fillon as Drake was way much better.
Unfortunately that short film was not endorsed by Song and Naughty Dog.

All in all
Unchartered was just simply ok and nothing fantastic. Don’t bother watching it
in the cinema. Just wait for it to stream.

Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-43433878873349926672022-04-18T15:33:00.004+08:002022-04-18T15:33:58.016+08:00Movie Review of Furioza
Furioza - 5/10

From the trailer, it looked like a eastern european version of Green Street Hooligans or The Firm(cult classic) but sadly Furioza is just a forgettable movie about a bunch of white people beating the shit out of each other, selling drugs and shit and being remorseful after getting fucked.

The terrible thing about Furioza is the editing. Oh well... let's get on with the review.

When I first found out that Robert Pattinson aka Mr Twilight will be the new Batman, I was thinking to myself, "this fella cannot lah. What is he going to do sparkle his enemies to death ah?" Fortunately, He has sort of proved me wrong. Robert Pattinson as Batman? Good, he has the look. Perhaps the voice can be alittle darker. But Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne? Terrible. This pundei is a billionaire but cannot afford a comb to comb his hair ah? Whats's with the emo look? And the topless back shots of him were disgusting. He needs to pack in some muscles if he wants to show off his back. All I saw was bones. That was my one of my two peeves about The Batman. Pattinson was a terrible Bruce Wayne and it's a good thing that there weren't many scenes of him.

Apart from that, the rest of the cast was pretty good. Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman will never beat Michelle Pfeiffer. That one take of using the whip to blow out candles has cemented her as the best Catwoman ever. However, Zoe is definitely better than Anne Hathway and Halle Berry. Her fight scenes were pretty slick. Maybe get a better mask.

Colin Farrel as Penguin was amazing. You can not tell it was Colin cos of the fantastic make up and how he speaks. A damn good redemption for Colin Farrel in comic movies cos he was absolute shit as Bull's Eye in Daredevil. Penguin is also one of the scene stealers for this movie. He has some funny lines.

Paul Dano as Riddler was perfect. I've always admired Paul Dano's works and he revels at quirky yet evil characters. Characters from Little Miss Sunshine to There will be Blood. Paul Dano is one actor, everyone should take note of. His rendition of Riddler is way different from the campy one Jim Carrey did. His mask reminded me of Kickass. He was definitely more terrifying without the mask.

It was nice to see John Turturro aka Jesus (Big Lebowski) as Carmine Falcone. His scenes were not many but there is a reason why. Andy Serkis as Alfred is my 2nd peeve. He is the worst Alfred ever. Serkis just doesn't cut it as Alfred, all scenes involving him and Bruce were dull and painful to watch.

I still think The Batman is a really good movie and I definitely enjoyed the production part of it. The fight scenes were brilliant. There was a particular gunfire fight scene that was damn impressive and reminded me of the Darth Vader fight scene in Rogue One. Interestingly enough, The DP for Rogue One is the DP for The Batman. Greig Fraser. So far the movies, Greig has done have been amazing. Dune, Zero Dark Thirty and Vice. He really captures some brilliant shots. I also love the tone and colour of the movie. There are tinges of green for Riddler scenes and red for Batman. There have been complains that some of the scenes are alittle too dark, I have to disagree on that cos it does capture the state Gotham is in.

The Batman is about 3 hours long and the pacing was good that I do not feel the time at all. It really did feel like a crime, whodunit detective story (Bats is a detective afterall). You can feel the change Bats goes through. From his monologue intro which was doom and fear to his outro which was hope. The new Batmobile had a really cool intro with a weird abrupt pause but the car chase scene was brilliant.

All in all, The Batman is a interesting take on the classic comic and I would recommend Batman fans to watch it in the cinema.

Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0Singapore1.352083 103.819836-12.527499115070215 86.241711000000009 15.231665115070216 121.39796099999998tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-82183280148883022592020-02-07T10:21:00.002+08:002020-02-07T10:21:38.804+08:00Movie review of UnderwaterUnderwater - 2/10

Directed by William Eubank

Underwater had so much potential to be a cult film like Event Horizon or Alien but unfortunately it failed to do so. Too bad though, it had a good idea and setting it in the ocean was something different than the usual space shit.

One of the problems on why I didn't like Underwater was how the movie started. From the get go, the action immediately starts, without any warning or explanation. It may seem like a ballsy move from the director but I definitely needed the introduction. Movies like this, you need to have an introduction of the crew at the very least. It is a good build up. They should have done that, instead the audience has to figure out slowly who are the crew and what are their vocations as the movie progresses.

Casting was not too bad. Even Kirsten Stewart( the idiot from Twilight) was not terrible. Though there are moments she attempts the "Keanu Reeves" blur look but fails. Sorry Kirsten, only Keanu is the master of that. Sadly Vincent Cassel was severely underused for this movie. TJ Miller tries to provide some comedic relief but sadly a good 80 percent of his jokes and lines were not funny and what the fuck is it with him and some stupid cuddle toy. That was annoying.

The second problem was the whole reveal of the monster and scenes outside of the ship. It was so dark and very hard to see what was going on. If you want an example, think of the fucking battle scene in Game of Thrones where you cant see shit. That whole scene was very frustrating to watch. And the monster... looked like fuck. It looked like a retarded version of Cthulu.

All in all, Underwater was underwhelming. Don't bother watching this in the cinema. Wait for it on cable or Netflix.

Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah

The third installment of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence's Bad Boys. This is surprisingly way much better than the second one. I recently watched the second on Netflix to recap and it was terribly painful to watch. That is if you do not like Michael Bay movies. Bay did not direct nor produce the third one and perhaps that's why it isn't that bad though he does appear in a cameo in this.

To be honest, the first Bad Boys is still the best. The action, the humor and the chemistry was really good and I don;t mind watching it on reruns. Bad Boys for life at first was going towards that direction at the start. It even had a good villain as well. Sadly the plot started to suck ass towards the end. The plot twist was just awful. The moment I saw the plot twist, I was groaning. Why did the writers had to complicate shit like that? Just keep it simple lah. Martin Lawrence's character is even more whiny than the second movie till it got to a point it was not even funny anymore. I hope if they do make a fourth Bad Boys, please stop Martin Lawrence from being a whiny bitch. Make his character like the first movie.

Action sequences were fun and the new cast weren't that bad. Alexander Ludwig aka Bjorn from Vikings was not bad. Paola Nunez was good and pretty. Even Vanessa Hudgens was decent. Some of the old characters came back as well. One of my favorite among them was Joe Pantoliano as Captain Howard. He was hilarious. Even the kid who was gonna date Marcus's daughter was in as well.
Direction was decent but there are obvious traces of Bay's style. I would like to see Adil and Bilall stamp their own style in the fourth one if that was confirmed.

All in all, Bad Boys For Life is still a fun movie to watch even with a silly plot twist. It's the "leave your brain at home" kind of movie. Worth watching on a weekday.Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-59215262293239120452020-01-18T15:36:00.001+08:002020-01-18T15:36:21.395+08:00Movie review of 19171917 - 8.5/10
Directed by Sam Mendes

When the Golden Globes results came on, and 1917 won for Best Picture and Director, A lot of people were upset that Todd Phillips, the director of Joker did not win Best Director and nor did Joker win for Best Picture. Even though I did not watch 1917 at that point( haven't release) and I loved Joker a lot, I knew Sam Mendes had done something special with 1917. True enough, I was blown away.

I have always been a sucker for one takes. I remember watching that infamous scene at the restaurant in Goodfellas (Martin Scorsese) and I was awed by it. I always appreciated the work put in by everyone for a one take and it truly is a team effort. The movie, Atonement had one such mesmerizing take as well. Birdman directed by Alejandro Innaritu took one take sequences to a whole new level,by making the whole movie look like a one take with clever editing. This time round Sam Mendes raised the bar by doing a movie about World War 1, in one take with sublime editing.

The amount of work put in this movie is phenomenal. Everyone must have practiced the one takes numerous times before actual filming. It really isn't as easy as how it looks. I have to give credit to Same Mendes for his direction. The plot maybe simple but the way it was filmed is why 1917 deserves to win as many awards. I will not be surprised at all, if it won Best Picture, Best Director and definitely Best Editing.

Editing one takes and making it seamless like as though it was one continuous take is not easy. Lee Smith, the editor for Nolan's movies like Dunkirk, Inception an Dark Knight was the prefect man for it. It is really hard to tell the cuts at times. Mad respect for that.

If cinematography is at its finest, then you know it is done by none other than Roger Deakins. Some of the shots are so beautiful, that I forget that it is a one take. Simply Solid.

Casting was good as well, it really took me a while to recognize Dean Charles Chapman though, aka Tommen Baratheon of Game Of Thrones and a barely recognizable Colin Firth. I knew it was him cause of his distinctive voice.

All in all, 1917 is a really good movie. Even more so if you know a thing or two about filming and editing. Worth the watch even on a weekend.Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-6214150938680457922020-01-16T12:44:00.000+08:002020-01-16T12:44:00.735+08:00Movie review of Dolittle

Dolittle - 3.5/10
Directed by Stephen Gaghan

Robert Downey Jr's first movie after Ironman. It really has been a while since we saw RDJ doing other movies. His last movie outside Ironman was The Judge which was a feel good family movie. I enjoyed watching that. Dolittle however, I did not. Even though, it is a kids/family movie, it was badly done.

At first Dolittle was supposed to be released around the same time as Star Wars: Rise of the Skywalker, however fearing competition, the studio decided to release at a later date. Then it was released in January. Whenever studios release a movie in January, it sometimes mean they know the movie is shit and doomed to fail. Now Dolittle going through expensive reshoots and rewrites due to poor test screenings does not help the film one bit. Sadly it was quite evident as well.

Casting was good. There was an array of top notch actors and actresses doing VOs for the animals. I don't doubt RDJ's acting but his accent is fucking annoying. This was worse than his Sherlock Holmes accent. He sounds like he has asthma and doesn't know when to breath. Despite so many good actors as VOs, the script was just simply too dull. I won't be surprised if kids find this movie boring af.

As I painfully continue to listen to RDJ's asthmatic English accent, the plot for Dolittle just went downhill. Towards the end scene, where he has to "help" a dragon by pulling out a bagpipe out of its arse, was pretty much the lowest point of the movie and quite possibly RDJ's acting career.

All in all, Dolittle might have started like The Golden Compass in the beginning and ended like an unfunny slapstick movie. Don't bother watching this even with kids. Go watch the original Dr Dolittle or even Eddie Murphy's Dr Dolittle. At least they were funny.Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-27258688085842053412020-01-06T21:49:00.001+08:002020-01-06T21:49:11.998+08:00Movie review of Knives OutKnives Out - 6.5/10

After his much maligned direction of The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson is back with a new movie and it is also written by him. Knives Out has a strong cast and if you like classic whodunits? like the old school TV series, Murder she wrote, Poirot, Sherlock Holmes( not the Guy Ritchie one) or even enjoy playing the classic board game, Cluedo. You have to give this movie a try.

Like I mentioned earlier, the cast is strong. You have the likes of Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, Chris Evans and Daniel Craig in a movie and everyone had enough screen time to show what they have got. I liked the pace of the movie and the script was well written. I couldn't stop laughing when Frank Oz appears as a cameo. Christopher Plummer looked great and in shape. In fact the actress who is playing his mother is younger than him. You might remember him as Von Trapp in Sound of Music. Something a little unusual but Daniel Craig's accent in this movie is hilarious. I do hope to see another Daniel Craig's character, Benoit Blanc in yet another whodunit cos he was entertaining to watch.

Not much for anything but you have to focus on the lines and acting for Knives Out. I have to give credit to Rian Johnson for this. It is also best to watch the movie with subtitles so you can pay close attention.

All in all, Knives out movie was fun to watch and I think as long as Rian Johnson continue to do movies that are not Star Wars related, he would do just fine.Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-43466360870007354662020-01-06T20:14:00.003+08:002020-01-06T20:14:45.678+08:00Movie review of The Two Popes

The Two Popes - 5/10

I've always looked forward to Fernando Meirelles' movies. His direction of movies like City of God, Blindness and the Constant Gardner were brilliant. So when I found out Two Popes was directed by him, I had to watch it even though I'm not at all into the content of the movie. But it is a movie after all and watching two very good established actors such as Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce was great.

The rest of the casting were good but the movie is pretty much focused on Hopkins and Pryce. And it was really nice to see them going back and forth at each other through acting. If you have no knowledge of Catholicism, you might find it a little hard to understand what is going on so best to read up a bit if you wish to watch it.

Editing was not too bad. I did like some of the transitional shots of the movie. Sadly the cinematography was really inconsistent and leaning towards bad quite a bit. The close ups were horrible. Shaky and out of focus. Some shots it felt really too close. I could see Jonathan Pryce's nose hair, that's how close it was. For all those bad close ups, there was a really good shot, when Pryce's character walks into a room and the shot just shone out beautifully.

All in all, Two Popes is decent to watch, only if you have nothing else to watch. Just bear with the horrible close ups. Watch it for the acting.Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-68739851451589776262019-11-22T10:45:00.002+08:002019-11-22T10:45:57.166+08:00Movie review of Gemini Man

Gemini Man - 3.5/10

Ang Lee should really stop doing action movies. Every time he ventures into an action movie, it usually is shit. Hulk, nuff said. Just stick to movies, you are good at.

For an action movie, the action sequences were boring and ridiculous at times. The CGI was below par as well which makes the action sequences a little silly. I've always enjoyed watching Will Smith's movies. He always had a pretty good mix. An aging Will Smith doing action is not too bad. Though he ain't no Tom Cruise but still fun to watch. However, adding a younger version of Will Smith that looks like the Fresh Prince of Bel Air with weird lips (Think Henry Cavhil in Justice League) is just a plain no.
I love sci fi movies but sometimes you have to be a little, just a little realistic. Don't push it too far or it will just become ridiculous. Gemini Man is a fine example. The movie was going ok right until mid way it starts getting ridiculous and then towards the end, the plot twist was just rubbish. And then there was Clive Owen. I really did not understand what Ang Lee was trying to do with his character? Cos it was confusing and Clive Owen's acting did not help one bit as well.

Don't bother watching Gemini Man at the cinema. It's boring and a waster of ticket money. Wait for it to show on cable or Netflix.Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-52738091038278069842019-11-22T09:52:00.000+08:002019-11-22T09:52:09.998+08:00Movie review of Zombieland: Double TapZombieland: Double Tap - 5.5/10

I enjoyed the first one and I was pleasantly surprised they decided to do a sequel ten years later. Double Tap was still fun and had some pretty funny lines and scenes.

The cast is still the same and they added a few more to the mix. Zoey Deutch is one of the new addition and she pretty much steals the show every time she appears. It was pretty obvious that the rest of the cast could barely keep themselves from laughing. Abigail Breslin( Little Rock) used to be cute in the first movie. She did not age well. She looks very different now. Beside Zoey stealing the show, Woody Harrelson still maintains his comedic scenes to a tee. It was like Tallahassee hasn't changed one single bit. The cameoswhich have appeared for Double Tap had their moments as well. However I wished Columbus had "murrayed" another celebrity instead and it would have been hilarious if it was Dan Akroyd.
Do wait a while for the end credits where you will see a pretty funny clip.

Zombieland: Double Tap is a fun movie to watch. If you like zombie movies or have watched the first one then you will enjoy Double Tap. I enjoyed the names they came up with for the zombies as well. Hilarious.Subash Ramonehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13751240554056721783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395440442890366723.post-65894061894399851232019-10-28T19:09:00.000+08:002019-10-28T19:09:34.104+08:00Movie review of Terminator: Dark FateTerminator: Dark Fate - 3/10

I tried to watch the new Terminator movie with zero expectations. I really tried. But it's hard for me cause I love Arnold Schwarzenegger a lot and he has always been my fav childhood action hero. Alas, it really is time for Arnie to stop acting in Terminator movies or they stop making Terminator movies all together cause Dark Fate pretty much sealed it for me.

Terminator: Dark Fate started on just fine. It was going on well despite some dumb scenes(will get to that later) and horrid acting. Linda Hamilton aka Sarah Connor's big entrance was not too bad and at this moment I was smiling to myself, thinking maybe Dark Fate might just be a proper sequel to T1 and T2. Well, all that went down the drain, the moment Arnie showed up, everything turned to shit. And I mean every fucking thing. From the plot, to the action, to the acting, it just became absolute rubbish.

I can't believe James Cameron approved, let alone produced this piece of shit, especially with how the story changed. Why the fuck would you change your fucking villains, from the infamous Skynet whom everyone knows to some shit called Legion? Cheebye, no other fucking villain company name to use ah?
And speaking of villains, Arnie's pivotal role, The Terminator. From the scary character in T1 , to the bad ass he was in T2, he has a fucking name now and it's CARL! Yup. They gave him a fucking name lah. And not just that, the pundei has a wife and kid also. Knn.
The dumb scenes I mentioned earlier was the killing of John Connor in the first 5 mins of the movie. Why? Just by doing that, you killed off the classic stories of T1 and T2. I was a little confused at the start but when the story unfolds later on, I realized that it was really a stupid move to kill off John and changing Skynet. So now you have new terminators, new villain company and of course a new resistance leader who goes by the name of Dani Ramos. The new John Connor. You also have Grace who is the protector of Dani. Grace is not a terminator, she's just an enhanced super human or some shit. Helping them out will be Sarah Connor.
Look, I'm all in with the girl power, empowering women and all. but if you want to make a movie empowering women, do something original. Not a sequel or remake of classic movies. That shit does not work. Haven't you learned anything from the last Ghostbusters or Ocean's 8? Idiots.

The acting is fucking horrible. Natalia Reyes (Dani Ramos) was just fucking painful to watch every time she is on screen. The moment she opens her mouth, I groan. Delivery of lines is just shit. I liked Mackenzie Davis( Grace), she was pretty cool in the action scenes but her lines were downright terrible. I dunno why Linda Hamilton is in this movie. She just looks bored and her acting is terrible. The scene she is sad sitting on a tree trunk was just damn cringe worthy. Gabriel Luna who is the new Terminator was pretty decent. Rev 9 or some shit, I'll just call him, the Mexican Terminator. I liked how he looks around, walks and talks. He ain't no Robert Patrick(T1000) but he's alright. Probably the only reason I am giving this garbage a rating of 3 is because of the Mexican Terminator and Grace. Well at least he was better than the Korean Terminator.

Surprisingly of all things, the CGI was terrible. In the day and age, it is hard to believe that the effects of the first 2 Terminator movies look so much better than the effects in Dark Fate. One example of shitty CGI is when the terminators come out from the beach.

All in all, Terminator Dark Fate was dreadful to watch. I have now fully given up on Terminator movies. Thanks to Dark Fate. For me, it will always be the first 2 and that's it. The rest all can fuck off and die. Was Dark Fate the worst of the series? It is a close second. Terminator 3, Dark Fate, Genisys and then Salvation. That's my rating for worst in the series. James Cameron can just fuck off and wait another 50 years to do his fucking sequel to Avatar for all I fucking care.

If you are a fan, do not watch this. You are only going to get high blood pressure and be very pissed. It is not even worth to watch it on a weekday. Fuck Terminator: Dark Fate.
